Candlelight Pattern

WalkerTreasuryProjectCandlelightRS

Yarn: Anchor Artiste Mercer Crochet thread size 40
Needles: 1.5mm (US 000)
Gauge: 12 sts/in (blocked)
Pattern: Candlelight Pattern
Stitch Count Repeat:  Multiple of 20sts
Book: A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns
Page: 279
Comments: The reverse side also carries on the candlelight theme. While the halo around the flame in the RS version is recessed (reverse stockingnet), on the WS the halo stands out in relief (stockingnet), see below. The pattern requires relatively severe blocking.

Lace Background Stitch

lace_background_stitch_large_gauge_RS
Yarn: Elann Peruvian Baby Silk
WPI: 14
Needles: 4mm (US 6)
Gauge: 4.75 sts per inch over pattern, blocked
Pattern: Lace Background Stitch
Stitch Count Repeat: Multiple of 2 sts
Book: A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns
Page: 262
Comments: The suggested needle size for this yarn is 3.25mm (US 3), but I used the larger size to create a more lacy effect. Comparing the blocked swatches from the smaller and larger needles, however, their effect is the same. The difference is in the unblocked swatches, where the swatch from the smaller needdle is much less lacy. Unblocked, this pattern is very cushy and also quite attractive.
