Slip-Cross Cable with Bobbles

Slip cross cable with bobbles

Yarn: Sirdar Tropicana, cotton effect dk
Wraps Per Inch: 10 wpi
Needles: 3mm aluminium (prym)
Gauge: 28 st and 34 rows to 10cm/4 inches in pattern
Pattern: Slip-Cross Cable with Bobbles
Stitch Count Repeat: Multiple of 9 stitches
Book: Charted Knitting Designs – A Third Treasury of Knitting Patterns
Page: 73

Comments: The swatch was 5 repeats wide and 3 high. Lightly blocked, it measured 6.5in wide by 4.25in high.
It benefitted from moderate horizontal blocking, which rounded the ‘cables’ nicely. The swatch above emulates the photo in the book. From  left to right: cables 1, 3 and 5 start on row 1 of the chart; cables 2 and 4 start on row 6 of the chart.

See below for an attempt at turning  the cable round an acute corner.

There looks like there is a problem with the chart in the 1998 Schoolhouse Press edition of the book. See below for reasoning.
