Miniature Puff Stitch

Yarn: Sirdar Tropicana, cotton effect dk
Wraps Per Inch: 10 wpi
Needles: 3mm aluminium (prym)
Gauge: 26 st and 24 rows to 10cm/4 inches in pattern
Pattern: Miniature Puff Stitch
Stitch Count Repeat: Multiple of 4 stitches
Book: Charted Knitting Designs – A Third Treasury of Knitting Patterns
Page: 248

Comments:  The pattern  was a pleasant surprise,  subtler texture than an all-over bobble stitch.  I can see this on the leg of a sock or on a baby jacket/hat.
I followed the instructions exactly, but this picture looks quite different to the one in the book – difference in lighting angles perhaps or how severely it was blocked in comparison to the book sample .

i have a vintage pattern that makes this same effect and the way it is written out is very confusing and it is not working out for me. would you be able to tell me the basic puff stitch?
