    Hang on, isn’t this the same yarn that has a gauge of 30st40rows here: http://thewalkertreasury.wordpress.com/2009/01/10/ear-of-corn/? Which is it?

    The gauge given is specific to the pattern, rather than the yarn. It can also depend on how ‘severely’ each swatch has been blocked.

    ‘Rabbit ears’ and ‘ear of corn’ are different enough patterns to allow the gauge to be slightly different in each swatch.
